Hi! I’m Sonia and I love to eat! I grew up with a French mom who cooked every meal from scratch. As a child I spent a good chunk of time with her in the kitchen and loved it. Like me, she had a full time job and the challenge of preparing quick nutritious dinners after work for her family.
In our household we ate EVERYTHING. Not one food category was left behind. I grew up eating foods I wasn’t quite sure what they were. Sometime it was a plate of chicken livers, others sautéed cow tongues. Of course once I was able to understand what they were I became that child who refused to eat any of it! Little did I know that those were one of the healthiest foods you could eat, especially if you have an autoimmune disease! On top of that I also ate plenty of bread , butter, cheese, crème fraîche, croissants basically gluten + dairy. The holy grail of French cuisine. Never would I have imagined eating a paleo diet. I was always the person that didn’t understand why wouldn’t you eat it all. If it’s fresh, homemade, and organic it had to be good for you, right??
Well, the hard truth is that depending on your personal needs that may not be enough to be healthy. Both my husband and I have been diagnosed with autoimmune diseases. Basically, your body’s immune system attacks healthy cells. That’s right, your OWN body is attacking ITSELF. Grains, legumes, dairy and gluten have been proven to aggravate symptoms for those with autoimmune diseases.
Fast forward, we now follow a paleo diet with the occasional slip up especially when we eat out. No one is perfect and sometimes cheating just helps you reaffirm why you’ve chosen to change your diet. You know when those flare ups pop up and all of the sudden you body is yelling at you. Who knew it could do that?!
This journey has led me to want to share my experiences, discoveries, and recipes with you. My life is hectic; my husband and I work full time jobs, we live in the city that never stops—NYC, have a toddler and juggle with managing a fast pace lifestyle and a healthy diet. I hope you’ll find ideas to make your life easier, recipes that help you stay on path, and most of all enjoy your dietary journey.
